A shawl is a pinnacle of the high-end art of clothing. The long, loose, and usually rectangular pieces of cloth that are draped around the body give a chic look that is nothing but shawls. They are a must-have, especially during winter not only due to the comfort and warmth they provide but also their elegance and charm.

Every textile produced in India has its unique tale, nativity, and style. Many of India’s cultural forms are vanishing, and textile is one of them. However, in recent times, traditional shawls have now become a way to make a fashion statement. Shawls from India feature locally-influenced motifs that tell the story of the weaving community and the fabric to suit the respective temperature conditions.

They are rooted in the folk tradition of Nagaland. These types of shawls are easily distinguishable because of their unique color pattern. They are typically made in wool and are perfectly suited for the winter weather temperatures across North Indian states.


Kashmiri Shawls:

Kashmir is regarded as heaven on earth. The beauty and elegance of the place can be felt in its fabric too. Kashmiri shawls are not only seen as incredibly comfortable when compared to other shawls. They are extremely functional and stylish also.


Kullu Shawls:

Native to the state of Himachal Pradesh, the Kullushawls are best recognized due to their unique patterned structure. These shawls are peculiarly classified by their coarser design. The raw materials come from the local population of goats (Deshkar, Bihang, Angaro, etc…). They are usually used during winter season.


Bhujodi Shawls:

The tradition of weaving these kinds of shawls in Gujarat is over 500 years old. Their unique weaving tradition is attributed to their connection with the Rabari tribe in Kutch. These shawls are woven with extra-weft designs on a plain warp, using rich shades of natural color. Their specialty also lies in the fact that they not only provide warmth during winter but also keep the wearer cool during summer.
